Clean Air Express Fare Increase 2023-2026

On December 14th, the SBCAG Board unanimously approved a Clean Air Express fare increase to be implemented gradually until July 2026. The phased approach, which raises fares annually over the next three years, is a direct result of the feedback received from the riders and aims to balance customer feedback with the cost increases to operate the service. The first change will be effective March 1, 2024. Monthly pass prices will go from $150 to $160 per month and ticket books (good for 10 one-way trips) will go from $50 to $54 per booklet.

See below for all the details.

Beginning March 1, 2024 Monthly passes will be $160, 10-ride ticket books will be $54 and there will be no change to the cash fare for a single trip of $7.

The single Tap2Ride contactless fare charge is $6. Per Tap2Ride policy, the single trip price is $1 less than the Cash price. When two Tap2Ride trips are taken with the same card in one day, the daily fare cap is equal to the price of a roundtrip taken with two 10-ride tickets ($5.40 + $5.40).  Accordingly, the Tap2Ride daily cap price has been updated to $10.80 per day.

The future fare adjustments will occur annually in July until 2026.

The Board also directed staff to develop a policy regarding making fare changes on a more regular basis. As well they directed staff to explore all additional revenue sources, including advertising, to help keep fare prices low. The Board requested staff explore options to resume and/or expand routes to address growing demand and raise ridership.
