Clean Air Express Fare Increase 2023-2026

Fares are increasing across all Clean Air Express trips. Beginning July 1, 2025, monthly passes will be $170, 10-ride ticket books will be $57 and cash fare for a single trip will be $8.

Receive Same Fare Discounts Using Tap to Ride

The single Tap to Ride contactless fare charge will be $7. Per Tap to Ride policy, the single trip price is $1 less than the cash price. When two Tap to Ride trips are taken with the same card in one day, the daily fare cap is equal to the price of a roundtrip taken with two 10-ride tickets ($5.70 + $5.70). Accordingly, the Tap to Ride daily cap price has been updated to $11.40 per day.

The next fare adjustments will occur in July 2026.

On December 14th, 2023, the SBCAG Board unanimously approved a Clean Air Express fare increase to be implemented gradually until July 2026. The phased approach, which raises fares annually over the next three years, is a direct result of the feedback received from the riders and aims to balance customer feedback with the cost increases to operate the service. The second change will be effective July 1, 2025. Monthly pass prices will go from $160 to $170 per month and ticket books (good for 10 one-way trips) will go from $54 to $57 per booklet. One-way cash fare will go from $7 to $8.

The Board also directed staff to develop a policy regarding making fare changes on a more regular basis. As well they directed staff to explore all additional revenue sources, including advertising, to help keep fare prices low. The Board requested staff explore options to resume and/or expand routes to address growing demand and raise ridership.
